Free State's Mosa Mokalobe selected for prestigious Global STEM Academy in Brazil
A 16-year-old learner from the Free State is set to represent South Africa on the international stage after being selected to attend the AFS Global STEM Academy in Brazil.
Mosa Mokalobe, a Grade 10 learner at Trio High School in Kroonstad, Moqhaka Local Municipality, is one of only three South African learners chosen to participate in the prestigious AFS Intercultural Programme. She departed for Brazil on Friday, 3 July, and will take part in the academy until 31 July.
The AFS Global STEM Academy, run by AFS Intercultural Programs, is an international not-for-profit initiative that promotes intercultural learning while equipping young people with the knowledge and skills needed to help build a more just and peaceful world.
As part of the selection process, participants were required to conduct research on global challenges. Mokalobe chose to focus on Zero Hunger, Responsible Consumption, and Good Health and Well-being, inspired by her family's involvement in agriculture.
