President Cyril Ramaphosa says growing investments by Google, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft and Mastercard are strengthening South Africa's position as Africa's digital hub while driving innovation, jobs and economic growth.

President Cyril Ramaphosa says South Africa is strengthening its position as Africa's leading digital investment destination, with growing commitments from global technology companies expected to boost economic growth, create jobs and accelerate the country's cloud computing and artificial intelligence capabilities.

In his weekly newsletter to the nation, Ramaphosa said the country's digital economy was attracting increasing investor confidence, citing recent investments by Google, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft and Mastercard.

"Our country's ambition to be a leading digital investment destination is being recognised by some of the world's leading technology companies," Ramaphosa said.

He said Google's decision to host its first African Cloud Summit in Johannesburg affirmed "Africa's position as a core growth region for the global cloud ecosystem."
