The champions of China’s League of Legends Pro League are set to square off against the champions of North America’s League Championship Series in an international exhibition match. The matchup pits two of the game’s most storied competitive regions against each other, and if history is any guide, the LPL side will walk in as heavy favorites.
For the uninitiated: the LPL is China’s premier League of Legends circuit, widely considered the strongest region in professional play. The LCS is North America’s top league.
A rivalry built on asymmetry
Cross-regional exhibition matches between LPL and Western teams have been a fixture of the competitive League of Legends calendar for years. These showcases date back to at least 2017, when inter-regional clashes became regular features of international tournaments and standalone events.
This particular matchup feeds into a broader competitive calendar. The Mid-Season Invitational 2026 bracket stage is scheduled for early July, featuring inter-regional clashes including LPL versus LCK (South Korea’s league) and CBLOL (Brazil’s league) versus LCS teams. The LCS 2026 Summer Championship is then set for October 3-4 in Atlanta.
