Can Tho City Police on Saturday said the operation was carried out under the direction of the Ministry of Public Security and the Director of the Can Tho City Police to combat gambling activities during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In the early hours of June 28, officers simultaneously raided eight football betting and illegal lottery gambling locations across the city.
A total of 26 people connected to the operation were taken to police headquarters for questioning. Authorities seized 45 mobile phones, iPads, computers and documents, including land ownership records.
Preliminary findings indicate that the gambling ring has processed more than VND1 trillion in football betting and illegal lottery transactions by the time it was dismantled.
