The Anambra State House of Assembly has approved the mandatory use of security identification jackets for all commercial motorcycle, tricycle, and bus operators across the state, expanding a security initiative that originated in Nnewi North Local Government Area.
The policy, which is aimed at strengthening public safety and improving the identification of commercial transport operators, will now be implemented across the 21 local government areas of the state.
The initiative was first introduced in February 2026 through a byelaw sponsored by the Leader of the Nnewi North Legislative Council, Hon. Chijioke Nwizugbe, making the use of security identification jackets compulsory for commercial motorcycle operators within the local government.
The byelaw was designed to enhance security, improve the traceability of operators, and build public confidence in the commercial transport system. It also made Nnewi North the first local government area in Anambra State to legislate compulsory security identification for commercial riders.
With the adoption of the policy by the Anambra State Assembly, the requirement has been extended to commercial motorcycle, tricycle, and bus operators throughout the state.
