The Ogun State Police Command says it has arrested 89 drivers for flouting the Inspector-General of Police’s directive on the crackdown on vehicles without registration number plates or with covered number plates, saying such violations pose a threat to both local and national security.

The command also arrested two armed robbery suspects, Abdulsalam Adam and Israel Salako, and recovered a stolen vehicle and two motorcycles in separate operations aimed at ridding the state of criminal elements.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

Babaseyi said the enforcement exercise followed a nationwide directive by the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, against vehicles operating without registration plates or with covered, altered or obscured number plates.

He said, “During the operations, 89 vehicles and their drivers were apprehended for violating the directive. Appropriate administrative and legal actions have been taken against the offenders in accordance with extant laws and established procedures, including prosecution where applicable.
