Guwahati: Manipur BJP MLA and veteran tribal leader Vungzagin Valte's mortal remains were laid to rest on Saturday in Churachandpur district, 134 days after he succumbed to injuries sustained during the ethnic violence in the state.Manipur CM Yumnam Khemchand Singh attended the funeral service of the Thanlon MLA in Dorcas Veng, Churachandpur, becoming the first CM to visit the district since ethnic violence broke out in 2023.The body of the 62-year-old leader, who belonged to Zomi tribal community, had been kept at Churachandpur District Hospital since it was brought from Delhi after he died on February 21. A three-time legislator, Valte had been undergoing medical treatment in Delhi after he was brutally attacked in Imphal on May 4, 2023.
