Members of the Zomi community in Manipur are planning to bring the body of the late Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Vungzagin Valte to the national capital to stage a protest outside the BJP headquarters.
Valte had been physically assaulted by a mob in Imphal on May 4, 2023, resulting in paralysis, and died on February 21, 2026 in a hospital in Haryana’s Gurugram. His body is being preserved at the mortuary of the Churachandpur district hospital in Manipur.
Before allowing his last rites to be performed, Valte’s family and the leaders of the Zomi tribe want certain conditions to be fulfilled, including the arrest of those who had attacked Valte in 2023.
