Rich tributes were paid to legendary freedom fighter Alluri Sitharama Raju on his 129th birth anniversary across Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli and Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) districts on Saturday.

The main celebrations were held at Pandrangi village in Padmanabham mandal, the birthplace of the revolutionary leader. Commemorative programmes were also organised at K.D. Peta in Anakapalli district, where his mortal remains are preserved, and at several places across ASR district, where he spent a significant part of his life leading the historic tribal uprising against British rule.Andhra Pradesh BJP president P. Abhishikt Kishore, public representatives and government officials paid floral tributes to Alluri Sitharama Raju’s statue at Pandrangi. A Tiranga rally, taken out from Alluri’s ancestral house to the public meeting venue, drew enthusiastic participation from students, youth, elected representatives and local residents. Patriotic slogans echoed through the village as people joined the procession to honour the iconic freedom fighter.Traditional cultural performances, patriotic songs and theatrical presentations depicting the life, sacrifices and contributions of Alluri Sitharama Raju to India’s freedom struggle formed part of the celebrations.Addressing a public meeting near the recently constructed Bharat Mata Temple, Mr. Madhav recalled the historic Rampa Rebellion led by Alluri and said it had ignited the spirit of nationalism and inspired freedom fighters across the country. Preserving and promoting Alluri’s legacy was a collective responsibility, he said, urging the younger generation to draw inspiration from his courage, sacrifice and patriotism.Mr. Madhav announced plans to establish a Freedom Fighters Park at Pandrangi as a landmark memorial. The proposed park will feature a 25-foot bronze statue of Alluri Sitharama Raju along with statues of 32 prominent revolutionaries and freedom fighters, including Mallu Dora, Bhagat Singh, Veer Savarkar, Chandrashekhar Azad and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. A giant national flag and landscaped gardens will also be developed as part of the project.Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said Alluri’s ancestral house would be developed into a memorial museum. He expressed confidence that the proposed Freedom Fighters Park would be completed by next year and reiterated the government’s commitment to developing Pandrangi into a prominent heritage and tourism destination.He said naming the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport after Alluri Sitharama Raju reflected the State government’s commitment to honouring the legendary freedom fighter and preserving his legacy for future generations.Mr. Abhishikt Kishore said developmental works had already been taken up in the village and administrative approvals worth nearly ₹2.5 crore had been accorded. He assured full support from the district administration and said additional infrastructure and heritage development works would be completed before next year’s celebrations.Meanwhile, in Anakapalli district, Legislative Assembly Speaker Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu, MLA Konathala Ramakrishna, District Collector Vijaya Krishnan, Superintendent of Police Tuhin Sinha and other public representatives paid tributes at K.D. Peta, where the mortal remains of Alluri Sitharama Raju are preserved. They recalled his sacrifices and invaluable contribution to India’s freedom struggle.Commemorative programmes were also organised across ASR district, including at Paderu, Araku and several other places associated with Alluri’s life and legacy.
