The district police have launched a probe into a complaint alleging sexual harassment of a 13-year-old girl by several people, including her classmates.The Koodal police registered two cases on Friday against six individuals. Among the accused is a minor girl who is a classmate of the Class IX survivor.According to the police, the minor disclosed the alleged abuse during a counselling session at school. She has alleged that she was subjected to harassment both on the school premises and at a private residence.InconsistenciesBased on the First Information Reports (FIRs), the police took six persons, including four minors, into custody. They were subsequently released after several hours of interrogation. Investigating officials stated that a detailed probe is imperative as certain inconsistencies emerged between the girl’s statements and circumstantial evidence.Taking suo motu cognisance of media reports regarding the incident, State Commission for Protection of Child Rights chairperson K.V. Manoj Kumar too has initiated proceedings.
