Kanniyakumari District Collector M. Prathap on Saturday said that steps would be taken to increase the number of terrace gardens in Corporation and municipality areas across the district, while inaugurating the organic produce market at the farmers’ market premises in Vadasery.Speaking at the event, Mr. Prathap said that the Tamil Nadu government has been implementing various measures to promote organic farming, strengthening the sustainable agriculture practices and improving the marketing opportunities available to farmers.He announced that, beginning this week, an organic produce market will be conducted on the first Saturday of every month. This market will feature a wide range of organically grown products, including fresh vegetables, fruits, organic honey, traditional rice varieties, natural fertilizers and vermicompost.The Collector noted that steps would be taken to upgrade the reach and operation of this organic farming market across the district. He also said that measures are being considered to ensure consumers can purchase genuine products with confidence through proper certification and other necessary steps.Highlighting the importance of such initiatives, he said that the availability of multiple organic products in one place would help consumers compare quality and make informed choices, while also encouraging healthy competition among farmers.He added that the steps would be taken to further promote terrace gardening in urban localities, encouraging residents in municipalities and corporations to support sustainable living.
