The Talaghattapura police have arrested five men after a young woman alleged that she was gang-raped at a house in Maruthi Nagar in south Bengaluru.According to the police, the victim, a resident of Devanahalli, received a phone call from the prime accused, Amaresh, on Friday around 5 p.m.One Somashekhar, who works for a private security services agency, allegedly told her that his friends from Kalaburagi had come to Bengaluru and wanted to meet her.The woman reached the location around 7 p.m. by a bike taxi. The police said she was acquainted with two of the five accused.The police said the group spent some time together and consumed alcohol before the alleged assault took place. She was suspected to have been drugged and was allegedly raped. During this time, Amaresh, one of the accused, allegedly raped the woman.The police are investigating the role of the other four accused in the incident.The victim managed to free herself and immediately dialled the 112 emergency helpline. A police patrol team rushed to the spot, rescued the woman and apprehended all five accused from the location.The arrested include Amaresh, Somashekhar and three others.The woman was shifted to a hospital for medical examination. The Talaghattapura police have registered a case. The accused are being questioned, and further investigation is under way to ascertain the sequence of events and the role of each suspect.The police said the final charges would be determined based on the victim’s statement, medical evidence and the findings of the ongoing investigation.
