The Erode district police have arrested 150 people during a month-long special drive against ganja and banned tobacco products in June.According to a press release, the drive was conducted under the supervision of Superintendent of Police D.V. Kiran Shruthi as part of efforts to curb offences under special and local laws.During the enforcement campaign, police inspected 93 locations suspected of storing or distributing contraband. They registered 44 cases relating to ganja and 92 cases involving banned tobacco and gutkha products. The seizures included 24.230 kg of ganja, 8,565 intoxicating tablets, 200 ganja-laced chocolates, and 567.430 kg of banned tobacco and gutkha products. A total of 150 people were arrested in connection with the cases.Acting on recommendations from the police, officials of the Food Safety Department sealed 42 shops found selling banned tobacco products.
