Rela Hospital, a leading Chennai-based centre for liver disease management and transplantation, launched its new facility to be operated from Shweta Speciality Hospital in Tiruchi on Saturday.The centre, which features a dedicated 14-bed unit for liver care, specialised intensive care unit, a high dependency unit (HDU) and modern operation theatres, among other facilities, was inaugurated by Mohamed Rela, chairman, Rela Hospital.S.N.K. Chenduran, founder, Shweta Speciality Hospital and a medical gastroenterologist trained at Rela Hospitals, Chennai, and senior clinicians from the two hospitals were present.The liver care programme at the Tiruchi facility will be mentored by Prof. Rela and a senior multidisciplinary team from Rela Hospital.Over 50 liver transplant recipients from Tiruchi and the delta region who underwent transplantation at Rela Hospital, Chennai, participated in the event.In his address, Prof. Rela said: “A significant number of patients from Tiruchi and surrounding districts travel to Chennai for specialised liver and gastrointestinal care. Unfortunately, many reach us when their disease is at an advanced state. The Tiruchi facility will provide liver and gastro care closer home.
