District Collector C. Muthukumaran has directed the Water Resources Department to check flow of effluents into the Noyyal in Karur district from neighbouring districts.Mr. Muthukumaran, who inspected the Noyyal Athupalayam Dam along with senior officials, said steps were being taken to check the pollution to the river. The WRD should ensure that water for irrigation was available for farmers and prevent the mixing of effluents from Coimbatore and Tiruppur district borders into the river.The Athupalayam dam currently had about 10 million cubic feet (mcft) of water against its full capacity of 235 mcft, he said.
