The launch of South Africa's first Club Med resort on the KZN North Coast not only enhances tourism but also creates 40 new lifeguard jobs, reinforcing water safety and community development through a partnership with the NSRI.
The opening of South Africa's first Club Med resort on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast has brought with it more than a boost for the province's tourism industry, with the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) creating 40 lifeguarding jobs, most of them filled by people from surrounding communities.
The internationally recognised resort at Tinley Manor officially opened on Saturday, with the NSRI taking responsibility for water safety and lifeguarding services after being appointed through a competitive tender process.
For the NSRI, the partnership represents an expansion of its drowning prevention work, while for the region, it provides trained personnel who will continue strengthening water safety beyond the resort itself.
The newly recruited lifeguards have all completed NSRI training and certification and will oversee safety at the resort's six swimming pools, dam, and other inland water facilities. On the public beach, they will work alongside KwaDukuza Municipality lifeguards, who remain responsible for beachgoers' safety.
