The Independent Police Investigative Directorate has arrested two suspects, including a suspended Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department officer, in connection with the alleged theft of precious stones worth about R14 million.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has confirmed the arrest of two suspects, including a suspended Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) officer, in connection with the alleged theft of precious stones worth about R14 million.

The arrests were made on Friday night, with a third suspect expected to be arrested.

More arrests are expected in the coming days.

IPID spokesperson Lizzy Suping said the suspects are due to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Monday.
