I will always remember the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, but not because I watched any of it. At the time, I didn’t even know where exactly in the U.S. Atlanta was located. Rather, for the duration of the Olympics that summer, my family, newly arrived in America, was camping (legally) in a state park just outside of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, waiting for the move-in date of our new apartment.
