Every meditation app I have tried wants something from me.
Headspace wants me to maintain a streak. Calm wants me to listen to a Daily Jay. Insight Timer wants me to join a group. One after another, apps designed to reduce my stress started creating new forms of it.
The Feature Trap
Here is what happened to meditation apps between 2015 and 2026:
