The group said the circumstances surrounding the controversy underscore the need for caution and objective scrutiny rather than drawing conclusions based on unverified claims.
The Centre for Peace Transparency and Accountability (CPTA) has urged Nigerians to allow due process to prevail over allegations involving the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, in relation to the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Comrade Patrick Ogheneyero Jr. on Friday, the organisation said while allegations of misconduct against public officials should be taken seriously, they must be investigated and determined through lawful processes.
"As an organisation committed to transparency, accountability, democratic governance and the rule of law, CPTA believes that every allegation of misconduct deserves to be treated with seriousness. Equally important, however, is the constitutional principle that allegations remain allegations until they are established through credible evidence and subjected to lawful investigation.
"The Center for Peace Transparency and Accountability calls on all stakeholders to allow due process to prevail and to refrain from inflammatory rhetoric capable of eroding public confidence in governance and democratic institutions."
