The temporary structure, installed across the collapsed section of the highway, has sparked fears among commuters and experts over its ability to withstand the weight of heavy-duty trucks and articulated lorries that regularly ply the strategic route linking Kwara and Oyo states.
Residents and road users have expressed outrage after the Kwara State Government constructed what they described as a "container bridge" as an alternative crossing on the Okolowo–Alapa Road in Moro Local Government Area, months after the collapse of the Mooro Bridge that claimed a life and left several others critically injured.
The temporary structure, installed across the collapsed section of the highway, has sparked fears among commuters and experts over its ability to withstand the weight of heavy-duty trucks and articulated lorries that regularly ply the strategic route linking Kwara and Oyo states.
A visit by SaharaReporters to the site on Friday morning showed that the state government had completed the alternative access road leading to a makeshift bridge constructed with shipping containers.
The road remains a major transportation corridor, frequently used by trailers, fuel tankers, trucks carrying agricultural produce, construction materials, and other heavy vehicles travelling between Kwara State, northern Oyo communities, and the Nigeria–Benin Republic border.
