Sir, – Eileen Seery rightly criticises the relocation of Ireland’s Nations League matches against Israel “to neutral venues”, namely Hungary and Serbia (“Ireland’s principles will be eroded by Israel matches,” Letters, July 3rd).Hungary was proposed as a venue at a time when, under far-right prime minister Viktor Orbán, it was the most unconditionally pro-Israel EU member.When Orbán was ousted by Péter Magyar in elections last April, this role passed to Serbia, a candidate to join the EU.
