Nigeria’s Acting High Commissioner to South Africa, Temitope Ajayi, has disclosed that no fewer than 500 Nigerians are awaiting evacuation from South Africa following the repatriation of 861 stranded citizens over the past three weeks.
Ajayi disclosed this in an interview with Saturday PUNCH on Friday, saying the remaining Nigerians who indicated interest in returning home would be evacuated in the next phase.
According to him, the stranded Nigerians are scheduled to be repatriated next week.
“We have about 500 remaining, which we shall repatriate next week,” he said.
The disclosure came as the Federal Government said the returnees would undergo psychosocial and mental health counselling as part of a comprehensive reintegration programme aimed at helping them recover from the trauma of displacement and rebuild their lives.
