The official memorial service to pay respects to the body of Ali Khamenei was held on Friday, July 3, at the Tehran Mosalla. It was attended by senior officials of the Islamic Republic alongside commanders of the armed forces. Images published by Iranian state media show officials appearing in small groups before a podium where the coffins of Ali Khamenei and several slain members of his family are displayed.
The footage shows several foreign dignitaries, primarily from Iran’s neighboring countries and allies, attending the ceremony.
Foreign officials present at the memorial included:
Heads of State & Government: The leader of Turkmenistan; the presidents of Iraq, Tajikistan, and Georgia; and the prime ministers of Pakistan and Armenia.Parliamentary Speakers: The speakers of parliament from Azerbaijan, Oman, Qatar, Iraq, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Bangladesh, and Egypt.Diplomats & Officials: The foreign ministers of Nicaragua and Congo, the deputy chairman of the Security Council of Russia, and the president of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.Delegations & Non-State Actors: A delegation from the Afghan Taliban, representatives of Iranian-backed militias from Iraq, Yemen, and Lebanon, and the secretary-general of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
