Funeral prayers were held for Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on Sunday at Tehran’s Grand Mosalla complex, marking the second day of ceremonies that have drawn large crowds to the capital.
President Masoud Pezeshkian, parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and other senior officials attended the prayers, which were led by prominent Shia cleric Jafar Sobhani.
Khamenei’s coffin, draped in the Iranian flag, was placed alongside the coffins of four relatives who were also killed in the 28 February strikes by US and Israel.
Authorities have said they expect more than 10 million people to take part in the funeral events in Tehran. Khamenei’s body is due to be moved later on Sunday ahead of funeral processions through the capital.
