The first days of implementation of the €3 fee on small parcels from non-EU countries seem to have brought a temporary halt to the massive influx of low-value products traded via e-commerce, mainly from China, to Greece.

Although the measure officially come into force on Wednesday, consumers are already more restrained in their purchases from the popular Chinese platforms, which in recent years have gained a particularly large impact in the Greek market as well.

Sources from the courier industry reported in the last week a notable decline in the volume of parcels arriving from China to Greece. According to the first estimates, the reduction even reaches 50% compared to the previous months.

At first glance, then, the new fee appears to be achieving its goal of limiting what the European Union considers unfair competition from online retailers, mainly Chinese e-commerce giants.

In the Greek market, consumer interest is concentrated almost exclusively on four platforms: Trendyol, Shein, Temu and AliExpress.
