Seven children and their mother were left homeless after a fire ripped through their Middlemiss Crescent home in Reservoir Hills in Durban on Thursday.

Seven children and their mother lost their home to a fire in Reservoir Hills on Thursday night, leaving them in urgent need of assistance.

Relief efforts are under way to help the family, which includes three girls aged 17, 6, and 5, as well as four boys aged 3, 7, 10, and 15. Residents have thus far rallied together to provide clothing and temporary accommodations.

Deshini Naidoo, a neighbour situated on Middlemiss Crescent, said they initially thought the smell of smoke was from a grass fire in the area.

Naidoo, who had just arrived from work, was then alerted by a close relative that black smoke could be seen near her home.
