Deputy Commissioner H.V. Darshan on Friday assured street vendors displaced from Hampankatta and other areas in Mangaluru that their concerns would be addressed.A large number of street vendors, led by the honorary president of the Dakshina Kannada District Street Vendors Association, B.K. Imtiyaz, met Mr. Darshan on Friday afternoon and urged him to protect their livelihood.In a statement, Mr. Imtiyaz said Mr. Darshan gave the street vendors a patient hearing and assured them that he would look into the proposal to set up three street vending zones at places suggested by the association.Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) district general secretary Sunil Kumar Bajal accompanied the street vendors.A few days ago, the Mangaluru City Corporation vacated street vendors operating as part of the weekly Sunday Bazar along the pavement between Rao and Rao Circle and Clock Tower.
