Rare cloud formations and radiant sunrise hues were on display in the early morning skies above Strand, Western Cape.
There are mornings in Cape Town where the sky doesn’t just “look nice”. It shows off. And this morning, over the Helderberg region, was one of those.
Along the R44, just past Lord Charles, heading towards Stellenbosch, the sky had that very specific winter mood. Instead of a flat grey blanket, it opened into soft, rounded formations tucked into the cloud cover, almost like three gentle planet-shaped forms woven into each other.
It had that strange balance of feeling familiar, but also slightly unreal, like the sky had been gently sculpted rather than simply formed.
Soft pinks melted into purples, spreading through the clouds like someone had brushed watercolour across the atmosphere.
