The Springbok Women are gearing up for a massive battle against the higher-ranked USA at Ellis Park on Saturday.

Saturday's historic Test against the USA may last just 80 minutes, but the Springbok Women believe its significance stretches far beyond the final whistle.

While the Ellis Park encounter offers South Africa a rare opportunity to measure themselves against one of the world's leading sides, coach Swys de Bruin insists it also marks the beginning of a much bigger journey as the Springbok Women turn their attention towards the 2029 Rugby World Cup.

"This is all part of us going forward to the World Cup 2029," said De Bruin. "This is the very first hurdle.

"Suddenly we're playing the big teams. It's not what we had in the past. The USA are rated much higher than us on the world rankings, so what an opportunity."
