OTTAWA — Pierre Poilievre’s decision to eschew Pride events this year, coupled with a Conservative MP’s condemnation of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s participation in one, is raising questions about whether the party’s approach to LGBTQ+ issues helps or hinders efforts to expand its coalition.
“In a moment where hate is rising, where our communities are scared, we’re not having a conversation on building a Canada that is truly free for everyone,” said Fae Johnstone, the executive director of national advocacy organization Queer Momentum.
