Unai Simón just did something no goalkeeper in World Cup history has managed. The Spanish shot-stopper racked up 519 consecutive minutes without conceding a goal during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, breaking a record that had stood since before most crypto traders were born.

The previous mark of 517 minutes belonged to Italy’s Walter Zenga, set during the 1990 World Cup in Italy. Simón eclipsed it by keeping clean sheets across all three of Spain’s group-stage victories against Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia, and Uruguay.

From the pitch to the blockchain

NFT trading cards featuring Simón exist across various sports collectible platforms, including Sorare and Panini. The Athletic Bilbao keeper, who also featured for Spain during Euro 2024 and the 2022 World Cup, now finds himself in contention for the Golden Glove award.
