A coalition of concerned Nigerians has called on President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in Nigeria’s healthcare sector, citing worsening manpower shortages, decaying infrastructure and declining access to quality medical services across the country.

The appeal was made on Thursday in Abuja during a press conference organised by the Coalition of Concerned Nigerians on Health Reform, where members said urgent government intervention was needed to prevent a further deterioration of the nation’s health system.

Speaking on behalf of the coalition, its Coordinator, Muniretu Isa, said Nigeria’s healthcare sector was under immense pressure due to the continued migration of medical professionals seeking better opportunities abroad.

He noted that “The shortage of healthcare workers has reached a critical level.”
