Charles is the subject of Leeds interest Leila Coker/Getty ImagesJuly 2, 2026 2:46 pm EDT Updated Southampton intend to reject Leeds United’s latest bid for midfielder Shea Charles. The Athletic reported in June an offer around £20million had been rejected, but this new proposal will also be turned down. The new bid is higher, but Southampton sources insist it is lower than the £23m plus add-ons figure that has been reported elsewhere. Negotiations between the two clubs for the 22-year-old are ongoing.Charles joined Southampton from Manchester City in the summer of 2023 and has made 76 appearances for the Championship club, either side of a loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday in the 2024-25 season. The 2025-26 campaign saw the midfielder score six times and provide two assists across 38 matches as Southampton reached the second tier’s play-offs with a fourth-placed finish.Charles scored in the semi-final against Middlesbrough before Tonda Eckert’s side was expelled from contention by the English Football League for attempting to spy on their opponents.Separately, Leeds are negotiating a loan deal with Sheffield Wednesday in League One for their teenage striker Harry Gray. Last season, the 17-year-old made 20 starts and scored three goals during a loan spell at Rotherham United, who were relegated from the third tier.Leeds sources are keen for Gray to continue his development in League One with regular minutes at a club with an expectant crowd. Wednesday, who are under new ownership, have already sold more than 20,000 season tickets for 2026-27 and supporters are hopeful the club can immediately bounce back from relegation.Jul 2, 2026Connections: Sports EditionSpot the pattern.
