OTTAWA — The federal government will pour billions of dollars into energy and transportation projects in British Columbia while keeping the West Coast oil tanker ban in place, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Thursday.

The announcement, made with B.C. Premier David Eby in Vancouver, came just hours before Carney is set to appear at another news conference in Calgary with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, who is expected to unveil her province’s proposal for a new oil pipeline to the B.C. coast.
