Sharks fullback Aphelele Fassi is excited about Japan.
Japan’s Toshiba Brave Lupus will welcome Sharks fullback Aphelele Fassi to their ranks at the conclusion of his Bok duties later this year, and the sabbatical forms part of his recently renewed contract with the Sharks, ensuring his return to Durban in July 2027.
The 28-year-old has been a mainstay at Kings Park since 2018, having climbed through the Sharks’ junior ranks into the Springbok No 15 jersey.
Fassi was playing for Dale College at the Kearnsey Easter Festival in 2017 when the Sharks Academy spotted him, and he joined the Sharks immediately after he had matriculated.
Fassi joins a Brave Lupus side renowned for its passionate fanbase in Tokyo and experienced squad that includes All Blacks Richie Mo’unga, Shannon Frizell, and David Havili. The team is coached by former All Black captain Todd Blackadder.
