The Met Office has said another heatwave could hit early next week15:06, 02 Jul 2026UK households may need to stock up as another heatwave could sweep across parts of the UK in the coming days. The Met Office has said there's potential for a heatwave 'early next week'. According to the alert, temperatures could start building over the weekend.Tony Wisson, a Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster, said: "The forecast for this weekend suggests that temperatures could approach high 20s°C across parts of England, perhaps 30°C in parts of the southeast, with values of mid to high 20s°C in Wales. Although a return to heatwave conditions is looking increasingly likely for some areas, the likelihood of such extreme high temperatures or high levels of humidity as last week is currently low."For many, then, it may be necessary to prepare for the return of heatwave conditions. The NHS says heatwaves can pose serious health risks, with babies, young children, and older people especially vulnerable to the heat.People who have certain health conditions, including heart problems, diabetes, and kidney disease, may also face an increased risk. Thankfully, there are steps people can take to prepare themselves and their homes for high temperatures, including updating their weekly shopping list ahead of their next supermarket trip.Sharing advice for heart patients, the British Heart Foundation recommends that people drink plenty of fluids and eat cold foods during heatwaves, so it could be an ideal time to check that your fridge is stocked with any drinks or cold foods you might want during hot weather.British Heart Foundation explains: "Hot weather can present specific risks for people with heart conditions because the heart has to work harder to keep the body’s core temperature at normal levels."In hot weather, your blood vessels dilate, which can lead to a drop in blood pressure. Studies have shown this puts people with cardiovascular disease at greater risk of health complications and even death, though more research is needed."As such, people with health conditions need to stay hydrated. The British Heart Foundation says: "Drink plenty of fluids: This will help make up for the fact you are sweating more than usual and prevent your blood pressure from dropping too much."Water is best but milk, sports drinks, diluted squash, fruit juice, tea, and coffee all count. If you have been told to restrict your fluid intake, for example if you have heart failure, speak to your GP or heart failure nurse about other ways to keep cool."It's also advised to eat cold foods if you have heart problems. "Food with a high water content such as salad or fruit can help keep you cool, and are great sources of vitamins and minerals," the charity said." As such, people will likely want to check their shopping lists soon to make sure they have everything they need ahead of the weekend.Article continues belowWhile the British Heart Foundation's website shares advice for people with heart conditions, it's important to know that anyone can be affected by heatwaves. Seek medical attention if you are concerned about your health.
