The French naval defence company Naval Group has signed a letter of intent with four Lithuanian research institutions to establish a maritime defence innovation laboratory aimed at developing technologies for the Lithuanian Navy and wider European defence programs.
The planned laboratory, to be known as Shield Lab, will be created in partnership with Kaunas University of Technology, Klaipėda University, Baltic Institute of Advanced Technology and Centre for Physical Sciences and Technology.
“By combining the strengths of universities, research institutes and industry, we will develop technologies that strengthen the Lithuanian Navy, the country’s innovation potential and international competitiveness,” Emmanuel Brochard said.
According to Naval Group, Shield Lab will bring together Lithuania’s scientific expertise to develop defence technologies that can support the Lithuanian Navy while contributing to broader European defence initiatives.
The partners have established a joint steering committee to prepare the laboratory’s operating plan, set research priorities and determine its funding and governance model.
