The Loose Doctors returned to screens on Thursday to discuss the biggest health stories13:52, 02 Jul 2026A beloved Lorraine star candidly opened up about their mental health.Loose Women made way for a "special" episode of Loose Doctors on Thursday (July 2), with Dr Amir Khan, Dr Nighat Arif, Dr Zoe Williams, and Dr Hilary Jones returning to screens. The medical professionals touched on various health stories, as well as sharing personal anecdotes to help viewers feel like they're less alone.Later in the show, the doctors spoke about high-functioning depression and anxiety, with ITV Lorraine regular Amir candidly opening up about his own experience with it."When people hear the words depression and anxiety, they have an idea of what that might look like - people not getting out of bed, not eating, not engaging," Amir began, before admitting: "This is the first time I've talked about this on television."He continued: "I have, for quite a while, suffered from social and anticipatory anxiety. And what that means really for me [is] if I've got anything coming up, whether it's a meeting at work or a social event, I really struggle with it."I was trying to figure out when this all started, because it's been a number of years. It definitely started at work, I can't quite put my finger on what it was, but it started off with me worrying about every single patient that I saw."Amir revealed that he went to great lengths to ensure he was doing his job properly, including logging back into his work computer from home to go through every single patient's notes again."I'd ring my colleagues and say, 'Would you do the same thing?' And they'd be like, 'Yes, of course we would, there's nothing different there.'"Amir continued: "And then I had an incident where I was leaving work, I always generally finish work later than most people do at the surgery, so the car park is empty. But this time, there were two of the other GP's cars in the car park, and I was convinced that they were having a meeting about me."They weren't, they were just there working, and I had a full-blown anxiety attack and I had to ring my friends."Nighat quickly reached her arm out to offer support to Amir after learning about his struggles, before Hilary said: "The thing is, Amir, this is because your conscientious, you're thorough and you're caring."It's the price you pay for being those things. So, you're creating stress in yourself, you're creating anxiety, and actually, you're a high achiever. High-functioning. That's what it's all about, but it can get too much."Amir replied: "Thank you for saying that. I've managed to get tools in my head now to talk my way out of it."After each doctor went through their own techniques to manage anxiety, Amir concluded by sharing his gratitude, saying: "Thank you for that guys! I feel very supported. Thank you."Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV1 at 9.30am, while Loose Doctors is available to stream on ITVXArticle continues belowWhen life is difficult, Samaritans are available day or night, 365 days a year.
