The Madras Regimental Centre (MRC) in Wellington, Coonoor, the Nilgiris, organised the International Olympic Day Athletic Meet 2026 at Thangaraj Stadium recently.In a press release, the MRC said the event brought together students from 19 schools across the Nilgiris, “reflecting the region’s vibrant sporting culture and abundant athletic talent.”Participants from private, government and government-aided institutions competed in a range of track and field events, displaying determination, skill and sportsmanship, the press release added.To encourage wider participation among young athletes and nurture emerging talent, the MRC conducted free professional coaching sessions from June 20 to 22, providing young athletes access to quality training and sporting facilities. The initiative particularly supported students from underprivileged backgrounds by reducing barriers to participation, the press release said.The competition concluded with the presentation of medals and trophies to the winners.
