I hope you had a fantastic Canada Day. Bruce Arthur marked the occasion by saying that as a maturing footballing nation, Canada needs to adopt a “fight song.” Trying to identify one, Arkells lead singer Max Kerman told him he was hesitant to say “Oh, we should do ‘Summer of ’69’ or something.” Then, as if on cue, Mr. Summer of ’69 himself, Bryan Adams, released a new Canadian current events anthem: “Let me give you some advice, mister / you might have too much on your plate / go ’n’ load us up with tariffs / But we’ll never be the 51st state.” Maybe not a soccer song. But a fight song, for sure.
