NewsUK NewsMet OfficeMet Office weather maps show multiple areas of the UK will be battered by up to 16mm of rain before another potential heatwave that would bring 30C temperatures13:16, 02 Jul 2026Multiple areas are facing heavy downpours on Friday ahead of another hot spell which could send temperatures back into the 30s, according to Met Office forecasts.Brits have been warned that "another potential heatwave" may be on the cards early next week as hot weather - triggered by high pressure from the Azores - makes a return.But new weather maps show multiple areas will first be battered by up to 16mm of rain on Friday, with at least six counties in the firing line.Heavy showers are forecast to batter parts of North West England and Scotland from 9:30pm on Friday, July 3, Met Office maps show.These are expected to continue for around two-and-a-half hours before easing by midnight.The Met Office previously warned that conditions are forecast to turn more changeable this week, with "showers or longer spells of rain expected to be heaviest and most frequent in the north and west."Towards the weekend, high pressure will continue to build across most of the UK as the weather front extends from the Azores - but some rain may still affect the far north, Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Tony Wisson said.Tony added: "The forecast for this weekend suggests that temperatures could approach high 20sC across parts of England, perhaps 30C in parts of the southeast, with values of mid to high 20sC in Wales."Although a return to heatwave conditions is looking increasingly likely for some areas, the likelihood of such extreme high temperatures or high levels of humidity as last week is currently low."The forecaster has suggested that official heatwave thresholds could be met in certain regions in the coming days.The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) yesterday issued yellow heat health alerts for large parts of the country, meaning a "greater risk to life for vulnerable people".These warnings also bring an increased potential for indoor environments to become very warm, with the possibility of water‑related incidents increasing - including risks from cold‑water shock and drowning.The UKHSA said the alerts, in place from 12pm on Saturday, July 4, until 5pm on Wednesday July 8, could have an impact across health and social care services for those in the East Midlands, South East, South West, east of England and London.Article continues belowAreas set for heavy rain on FridayCumbriaWigtownshireDumfriesshireKirkcudbrightshireArgyllLanarkshireChoose Daily Mirror as a 'Preferred Source' on Google News for quick access to the news you value.Met OfficeHeatwave
