Three stone inscriptions with reference to Rajathirajan I, grandson of Emperor Raja Raja Cholan, were found at a Sivan temple in Kolathur near Kunnam in Ariyalur district.According to Mani. Maran, Historian and Tamil Scholar, Sarasvati Mahal Library, Thanjavur, and Thillaigovindarajan, a retired school teacher, in one of the stone inscriptions found in this dilapidated Sri Sundareswarar temple, there is reference about Rajathirajan I, presumed to belong the period 1044-1052 A.D.Another stone inscription threw light about the fact that this temple had existed during the Pandya and Vijayanagara periods.
