New Delhi: Saleem Ahmad, chairman and managing director of Rail Vikas Nigam Limited, has been assigned the additional charge of chairman and managing director of Ircon International Limited, a central public sector enterprise under the railway ministry.In his first interaction as CMD of Ircon, Ahmad emphasised "maintaining close engagement with stakeholders, including the ministry of railways, clients and project partners, while ensuring financial prudence and operational efficiency expected from a listed public sector enterprise", according to a press statement.The press release said that "his additional responsibility as CMD of Ircon is expected to further strengthen collaboration and synergy between two of the ministry of railways' premier infrastructure PSUs and contribute to the accelerated development of India's transport and connectivity infrastructure".Ahmad also held review meetings with Ircon’s board members, senior management and finance team.Ircon was set up by the railways ministry in 1976--originally under the name Indian Railway Construction Company Limited--to carry out railway construction work in India and abroad. The company was accorded ‘mini ratna’ category-I status in 1998, and in October 2023, was elevated to ‘navratna’ status by the Department of Public Enterprises.
