eThekwini Municipality Directorate’s Electricity Tariff Engineer, Siyethemba Luthuli.
The eThekwini Energy Directorate addressed residents' misconception that their prepaid electricity units are being consumed much faster than before.
Zimbili Mazibuko, host of the municipal podcast eThekwini Matters, brought up the issue on Wednesday during an interview with the Directorate’s Electricity Tariff Engineer, Siyethemba Luthuli.
Mazibuko said that on July 1, the Energy Management Directorate implemented a 9% electricity tariff increase.
“While any increase in the cost of electricity impacts households and businesses, this adjustment represents a notable change for the municipality and its customers. It is the first time in several years that the directorate has secured a tariff increase below double digits, a direct reflection of the growing partnership between the city and the people it serves,” she stated.
