No fewer than 18 people have been killed in a communal clash linked to a lingering land dispute in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, with 15 of the victims reportedly burnt to death after assailants set a two-bedroom apartment ablaze.
The latest attack occurred on Tuesday night at Angwan-Baago near Godoro village, where the victims were trapped inside the building and burnt to death, according to the Niger State Police Command.
The police said one other person was also killed at a separate location, bringing the total number of deaths recorded in the crisis to 18.
The violence is believed to have stemmed from a protracted land dispute between two communities in the area.
Earlier, police said the crisis began on June 29 when suspected armed men shot dead a 25-year-old man, Ibrahim Musa, at Godoro village.
