The UK Ministry of Defence has announced plans for a fleet of hybrid warships commanding uncrewed air, surface and subsurface vessels, as part of the Defence Investment Plan (DIP), worth £300bn over four years, which also includes plans for nuclear weaponry and next-generation RAF jets.
Under the plan, at least six Common Combat Vessels (CCVs) are to be built to replace the Royal Navy’s current Type 45 destroyers.
The planned Type 83 destroyers will be scrapped after never having passed beyond the design stage, the Ministry of Defence said.
