In an interview I was conducting the other day, someone told me they would never talk about money, politics, religion or sex. Bearing in mind the interview had been set up specifically to discuss their finances, it wasn’t exactly the easiest starting point.
But it got me thinking about my own family. Growing up, there was never really a topic that felt off limits. I could, and still can, tell my parents pretty much anything.
But though I can ask my parents to pick me up from the station at some ridiculous hour after a night out, or listen to me dissect the latest failure of a situationship, there remains one subject that I wouldn’t dream of mentioning: inheritance.
In recent weeks, I’ve considered changing that.
The idea of broaching the topic for the first time came to me after reading some research from interactive investor (ii), which highlighted just how important conversations about the subject can be.
