If the Mammoth do not match it, the Devils will get Hayton in exchange for a 2027 second-round pick. If Utah does match, they get to keep Hayton, but they are prohibited from trading him for one year. By that point, Hayton will be an unrestricted free agent. The Mammoth have seven days to make their decision whether to match or not.The $4.775 million figure is very close to the maximum a team can offer without including a first-round pick as compensation. The offer sheet is the first in the NHL in two years since the St. Louis Blues successfully offer-sheeted Edmonton Oilers players Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg in the summer of 2024. The Oilers received second- and third-round picks as compensation.Hayton was the Arizona Coyotes fifth overall pick in 2018 and moved with the franchise to Utah two years ago. He had a down season with only 10 goals and 25 points in 65 games, with his ice time dropping to just 15 minutes per game.
