Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Wednesday said policing must be more sensitive and citizen-centric, with a focus on the safety of women and children. He was addressing the Commissionerate Day Parade at the Parade Ground, Kingsway Camp.As per tradition, the Lieutenant Governor took the ceremonial salute and reiterated that ensuring the safety of the Capital remains the foremost objective of the Delhi Police.“We have pushed for women bus drivers with women constables, possibly armed, on certain routes to ensure safety of women passengers,” he said.Highlighting traffic management, Mr. Sandhu said stricter enforcement must be complemented by public cooperation and behavioural change to curb violations such as wrong-side driving, triple riding, and riding without helmets.Commissioner of Police Satish Golchha said crimes against women have declined by nearly 17% and the detection rate has reached 98%. Nearly 95% of such cases have been charge-sheeted within the prescribed time limit, he added.He said heinous crimes have declined by 8% compared to 2025, while offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita have reduced by 12%. Motor vehicle theft and other thefts have also decreased significantly.Under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, 123 narcotics hotspots have been identified. The Delhi Police will observe July as Child Safety Awareness Month.The parade, commanded by ACP Kshitij Kumar, featured 18 platoons representing various units of the Delhi Police.On the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor presented the ‘Ahat Veer Samman Patra’ to honour personnel injured or killed in the line of duty.
